Trampas picks up Judy for the dance and as they leave the King ranch they are watched by a young man, Sam Coates (Michael Sarrazin). Emmett organizes an unsuccessful posse to find the three robbers. Trampas asks Judy to the dance but she is reluctant to go with him even though she eventually acquiesces.
